How do I get a donation receipt?
As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, items donated to Northwest Center are tax deductible. If you donated through our mailer route or yellow card, the donation receipt is on the back of the yellow card you received in the mail. Simply fill it out, clip it along the dotted line, and put it with your tax records. If you didn't receive a yellow card in the mail, you can get a donation receipt from the donation driver. Or you can print out and complete a donation receipt.
As of 8/17/06, clothing and household items donated to charity must be in good used condition or better in order to be tax deductible. It is the donor’s responsibility to keep a written record of the itemized list of the donation and the value. Northwest Center does not determine the fair market value of items donated, as our staff members do not list or confirm each individual donation. According to the IRS, these items should be valued at fair market value for a deduction. For information and guidelines on valuing your donation, consult IRS publication 561.
How do I prepare my donation for pick-up?
Mark your bags or boxes with the letters “NWC.” Our drivers
are trained NOT to collect unmarked packages or items. If you are scheduled
for a regular pick-up, please set your donation out by
7:30 a.m. on the day of the pick-up.
When will the truck come?
Our trucks start their routes at 7:30 a.m., and drive all day (sometimes
until dark), so your stop could be any time of day.
How do I cancel a scheduled pick-up?
Please call 1-800-992-2060 or e-mail us
no later than 7:30 a.m. on the day scheduled, and we will remove your stop
from our list. We will be very grateful you saved us the time and gasoline—and
we can always re-schedule your donation day.
How can I get furniture or other large items picked up?
Northwest Center accepts these items in limited areas. You can always take
your furniture to your nearest Value
Village store.
What does Northwest Center do with the donations?
Northwest Center has had a partnership with Value Village since 1968. Value
Village relies on Northwest Center to collect and deliver donated items—so
they can be re-sold at local stores. By working together, everyone wins
and we divert approximately 5,000 tons of reusable clothing out of our
local landfills annually.
What do I do with items you don’t accept?
For items we don’t accept such as electronics, TVs, large appliances
and hazardous materials, try these alternative solutions:
